A view from the sky in a helicopter towards the end of Storm Ciarán

Storms containing sting jets have a distinctive structure, often characterised by rapidly deepening clouds. Storm Ciarán was consistent with that structure. The beauty of flying a helicopter means even if the runway is waterlogged, we can still fly – if visibility is good and it isn’t too windy of course.
